Doing 30 minutes of jump rope will cause people to lose weight. However, it should not be used as a long-term weight loss plan. Many people pair jump rope with other exercises that work out different parts of the body, including running, push-ups, jumping jacks, and weight lifting.

If you are just starting to jump rope, you should only do it 2-3 times per week until you get used to the exercise and can jump rope for longer and more often. If you feel that you can jump rope more often, wait a day or two to jump rope again so you aren’t too sore.

Here is what you should do if you want to lose weight by jump roping or you first start jump roping.

  1. Jump rope for 30 seconds.
  2. Rest for 60 seconds.
  3. Repeat about 9 times until you have been jumping rope for about 30 minutes or are too tired to continue.

Once you get used to jumping roping for that amount of time, you can jump rope for longer and start doing more with your feet. You may even be able to do tricks.

Take the time you need to rest when jump roping to lose weight, although you want your muscles to work hard, you don’t want to overwork them, as that will be quite painful and prevent you from continuing to jump rope.

Also, you will get hit in unexpected areas with your jump rope, especially when you first start jump roping. Simply keep going. If you need to reset your stance or position of the jump rope, do so and continue your workout.

For example, if you weigh 200 pounds and jump roped slowly for 30 minutes, you would burn about 362 calories. However, if you jumped rope quickly, you would lose about 544 calories. If you alternated between jump roping fast and slow, you would burn a number of calories in between the two numbers.

Jump roping is quite intense form of exercise, even though it may not seem like it to most people.
